YOU'RE BREAKING YOUR GROUND

Coat: Gap, Shirt: TNA, Jeans: American Eagle, Shoes: Vans, Necklaces: made by me

Two new beaded necklaces, adding a much needed pop of colour to a basic outfit. Been wearing them every day, much like these sneakers, so into them right now. Talked to my dad today about mixing sporty gear with everyday wear (he designs athletic jerseys for a living) and we both agreed that there needs to be more sports apparel in daily fashion. A couple of my attempts here and here.

MOVE DUST THROUGH THE LIGHT

Shirt: Gap, Lace Dress: Club Monaco, Heels: Kelsi Dagger

In an effort to not shop as much, I've been taking apart pieces I already own and mixing them in different ways. This dress came with a black slip underneath, but white makes a much more striking contrast, agreed?

YOUR LOVE WILL BE SAFE WITH ME

Glitter only on the ring fingernails. Mosaic heart we'll be making in class for Valentine's art.

SULLEN BLUE

Dress: Jacob, Shirt: Gap, Shoes: Vans, Scarf: Old Navy, Toque: RebelRebel

I really want to buy new sneakers, but in a pinch, found these oldies in my closet and stripped them of their laces. They feel like brand new shoes. Easiest fix ever.

JAGGED VACANCE, THICK WITH ICE

Pants: New Balance, Shirt & Vest: American Eagle

Ski pictures were just too hard to take in the pummelling ice-snow up at Cypress Mountain today, so the best will be a couple of après photos. Bright blue pants to go with bright blue eyes, somehow seems fitting for winter.

New runners just in time for my half marathon in February.

STILL ALIVE WHO YOU LOVE

Pants & Blouse: Gap, Hoodie: American Apparel

Going six weeks without the person I've been so close to lately.
Time moves too fast when you wish it would wait, but then too slow when you wish it would hurry.

YOUR WORLD CAN CHANGE FOREVER

A few weeks ago we listened to, discussed, and painted the lyrics of a song, Raconte-moi un histoire by M83. Now those words and pictures encircle our classroom, each student having contributed their artistic idea of the lyrics they were given to paint. We also traced over-lapping hands in groups of threes, each group having to find things in common with each other. A modern spin on a Venn diagram. I like projects that are made together, a team effort, because really, you can't do everything on your own, and that's a good lesson to learn when you're little.

SEARCHING FOR THE THRILL OF IT

Feel so lucky every time I get to go skiing, the views you get to see blow my mind. Gotta be tricky when taking pictures though, my bare hands freezing as I'm snapping shots on chair lifts and at the peak, pausing mid-ski just in time to catch that sun filtering through the trees ever so perfectly. Living in ski gear, the token red plaid shirt I always bring to Whistler, and my new native sweater.

FORGET ALL WE USED TO KNOW

Coat: Club Monaco, Shirt: Talula, Shirt: Gap, Shoes: Locale

The first couple weeks back at school after the holidays, still trying to get into my teaching groove. And the kids too, getting back into their student groove. I give instructions and there's always one kid who comes up to me after and asks a question about exactly what I just explained. I raise an eye without saying a word, give that 'teacher look', and the lightbulb goes on and that kid slinks away having known the answer all along. Gotta love that guilty smile afterwards though, kids always have the best smiles.

BUT IF YOU TRY SOMETIMES YOU MIGHT FIND YOU GET WHAT YOU NEED

Shoes: Aldo, Pant: TNA, Sweater: Anthropologie, Coat: Lucky Brand Jeans, Bag; American Eagle
Did a big closet-cleanse recently, really put my bad-shopping-habit into perspective. Had a friend come over and take whatever she wanted, holding up things saying "I've never seen you wear this". That's because I hadn't. Time to stop buying things just for the sake of buying things. These two-toned shoes have not even a scuff mark on them, so either wear them or pass them along to someone who will. Test run today.

IN THE HALF LIGHT

Sweater: Zara, Scarf: Gap, Shoes: Kelsi Dagger

Lived in this sweater for the weekend. Not your typical native sweater, but for some reason I was drawn to the bright pink colour, which is highly unusual because my closet boasts no pink clothes at all. New Year, new things to try.

I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR PICTURE

Eighty pictures strung up in my classroom. I read this article that talked about how some teachers think that if students are caught looking off into space during lessons, they're not focused. Teachers need to give students 'busy-work' so that they don't lose their concentration. But it also said that sometimes we need to give kids time to look off into space, to distract themselves with imagination and ideas, and maybe if they're not focused on the lesson they're just thinking about something else that is more important. Inspired by this opinion, I thought I might give my kids something to look at if they do so choose to look off into space during class. They have the opportunity to see themselves in a picture, or see a friend or classmate, working hard or having fun, or just being apart of our classroom community. I hope it inspires them to keep doing what they have already been doing, being respectful and responsible kids, overcoming challenges and creating unimaginable projects, things I could have never believed any grade ones and twos could do until I met this bunch.

RAININ' IN YOUR HEART

Only seventeen kids in my class today, made for a quiet start to term two at school. Had planned on wearing a dress and heels but opted for my new go-to shirt and coloured jeans, the rainy morning suggesting a much more casual outfit. A chronic new-clothes-wearer, when I get something new I wear it every day until I get sick of it, this comfy pull-over now on day five...

Navy pull-over: Wilfred Free, Striped shirt: H&M, Blue jeans: American Eagle
