LOOKING FOR AN EASY WAY OUT

Dress: Urban Outfitters, Sweater: Gap, Shoes: Aldo

I wish there was a way to emotionally detached from this job, but I guess if I ever did then I wouldn't be in the right line of work. I've become so personally invested in my class that I lose sleep thinking about what more I can do. I've become someone who starts their sentences with, "one of my kids in class today..." because for six hours of every weekday I'm believing that those twenty-two lil guys are actually my own kids. And let me be the first to tell you, that looking out for twenty-two little kids is streh heh heh hessss ful.

THE WAVES AND I FOUND A ROLLING TIDE

Dress: Wilfred, Shirt: Gap, Vest: American Eagle, Boots: Mango

Amidst so many disasters, two peaceful moments of this past week: the beluga viewing gallery at the Vancouver Aquarium, and my quiet classroom after all the kids had gone home on Friday. This was def a week where I was thankful to just get through it. Enjoy the weekend!

THIS IS POURING RAIN

Pants: TNA, Shirt: Gap, Shoes: Sam Edelman

This has been probs the craziest week of my teaching career, so many emotional ups and downs. One of the most ironic things about having things go awry is that it puts everything into perspective; I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm always amazed by my students, but this week really made me appreciate just how awesome they are. As if they can't be more awesome, we finished our cherry blossom haikus this week and submitted them to the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival Haiku Invitational. Some sample reading for ya, and pastel cherry blossoms to go along with.

LITTLE WAVES OUR BODIES BREAK

Shorts: American Eagle, Shirt: TNA

Seven hours later and I'm finished the example project I told my students I'd do for them. They've reached a level of reading and writing where I can challenge them with a research project, so we chose sea creatures as our topic (with a coinciding field trip to the Vancouver Aquarium coming up). Somehow it got decided that I had to study sea turtles, which I'm pretty sure they decided for me... In any case, clearly I'm a big keener who had to give it my all on this poster project and then obvs show it here for you all. And yes those are rhinestones you see...

Here's the thing: yes it took me way longer than I thought to do this example project and yes I probs went way overboard considering it's just supposed to be the example. But, I totally believe that giving an example to kids, giving a great example actually, will set the bar for them and give them a frame of reference. Little kids are so impressionable, and I'd like to make the best impression possible, one that says I def worked hard on my project and I expect you to as well. And here's the other thing: I'd do anything for my kids, and if spending seven hours on a poster project will encourage them and push them to work harder, then I will gladly do it, without a doubt. When I think of it that way, I think seven hours on a poster is the least I can do.

MIDNIGHT CITY

Feels like I had been waiting for that concert forever. Last night, M83 at the Vogue Theater, tickets that were a Christmas gift from my bf. Music you can just jump around to and dance forever it seemed. Especially when the stage was lit up with tiny little lights, making it look like a thousand stars. And there's something about a saxophonist that makes everything so cool, to hear a guy wailing on his instrument, there just aren't as many instrumental solos in music like there used to be. Great concerts are the best.

I WILL LET YOU GROW

Shoes: Nine West, Skirt: H&M, Shirt: Zara

My outfit for day 2 of parent-teacher interviews. I remember when I was in highschool, my mom going in to see my woodworking teacher and he told her that I would get a lot more work done if I didn't spend so much of my time chatting with my boyfriend. I still can't live that down. I also made wooden shoes for my year-end project. I almost broke my legs trying to walk in them. Times have changed but things stay the same really. I'm still trying to not break my legs in high heels. Still super chatty with my current bf. And still involved in parent-teacher interviews, although this time the other way around. It's been amazing having the parents of my students come in and see what they've done throughout the year. Can't believe it's almost over.

AND FLOWERS IN YOUR HAIR

Parent-teacher interviews outfit Day 1 - Dress: Club Monaco, Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell

Teaching is all about planning, planning lessons and planning art projects and planning so far in advance that you think nine weeks is def not enough time to get everything done (yes I've already started the countdown to summer). So I don't know how it is that this week I had to write up report cards, have parent-teacher interviews for two days, and go on a (small) field trip. And on top of that, I got a new student in my class, so I'm trying to get him going with all our routines. Blah. Planning was not my forte this week, especially when I managed to accidently delete half of the report cards I had already written. Wahh. Seemed fitting that our little outing involved us studying cherry blossom trees, which literally gave us time to "stop and smell the cherry blossoms" and get away from the confines of school, if only for just an hour. Time sure flies.

BE MY GETAWAY

Jeans: American Eagle, Sweater: Gap, Shoes: Aldo, Shades: Ray Ban

I think I was always a dog lover deep down but most recently made apparent on my weekend walks with Oliver. My bf works weekends, so I've taken it upon myself to walk the dog when he's not home. I have to admit there is something so incredibly calming about going for a stroll along the water with a canine companion. It's one thing for the dog to win the approval of the gf, who never really liked dogs in the past, but it's something else for the gf to win the dog's approval, who probs didn't like her for taking up so much of his master's time.
This could be serious.

JUST WHEN I'M IN YOUR LIGHT

Jeans: American Eagle, Belt: H&M, Top: Garage, Book: Catching Fire

Two things I've realized lately: I need to be nicer to my hair, so I'm saying goodbye to the straightening iron for at least a month and letting my locks go as au naturel as possible. And also, sunshine is a perfect time for reading, I forgot how relaxing it can be to spend a couple of hours doing nothing but getting lost in a good book. Wishing you all restful weekends!
